Course Aim
The University of Westminster (London, UK) and Westminster International University (WIUT) in Tashkent have collaborated to develop the Aspiring Leaders course, which incorporates the best international practices. This course is designed to enhance your knowledge in the field of leadership and improve your skills and experience in team management. By completing this course, you will be better equipped to effectively lead others and position yourself for senior roles and future career advancements.
Who is this course for?
This course is designed for middle managers, department heads, and HR specialists who aim to advance their careers. Participants will benefit from a combination of research-based theory, real-world case studies, and practical solutions delivered in person by international experts in leadership and management.
Learning Outcomes
The course emphasizes the best international practices and core aspects of leadership. These include team development, various communication styles, management challenges, the development of organizational culture, and other factors that contribute to a deeper comprehension of effective leadership practices in the workplace. Participants will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned through hands-on experiences, both individually and in teams.

The first day of the course will focus on global and local business challenges. It will provide examples of successful leaders and organizations. Through group discussions, examples, and a case study, the session will explore the qualities of effective leaders and illustrate key points. Additionally, the presentation will highlight the role of leaders in developing organizational culture, inspiring teams, and the importance of ethics in leadership.

On the second day, participants will learn about transitioning from a manager to a leader and achieving a leadership role in the organization. They will also learn about creating an atmosphere of mutual support. This session will focus on leadership diagnostics and group discussions to discover one's "best self". A case study will be used to highlight key learning points. Additionally, the session will explore effective communication in leadership, including the impact of behaviors, work methods, and communication styles on team engagement.

Doctor Susan Laing - Emeritus Professor, University of Westminster
Dr. Susan Laing is an experienced consultant specializing in entrepreneurship and enterprise development. She has an international portfolio and is currently involved in projects in India, Abu Dhabi, Finland, and Switzerland. At the University of Westminster, she serves as the Interim Head of School for Management and Marketing. Previously, Dr. Laing held positions as a board member and director of Enterprise Educators, as well as the Dean of Teesside University Business School. During her time as Dean, she successfully relaunched the school, expanded its portfolio, and grew the academic team over a four-year period. Prior to her role at Teesside University, Susan spent over twenty-five years at Edinburgh Napier University, where she led innovative courses and implemented effective learning methods for working professionals.
Her areas of expertise include enterprise education, entrepreneurial leadership, and international new ventures (or born global businesses). Dr. Laing has successfully collaborated with companies in Sri Lanka, the Caribbean, Finland, and New Zealand, serving as a subject matter expert to design and deliver innovative enterprise curricula and interactive teaching methods that ensure the relevance and practicality of student learning.

Senior Lecturer, Doctor Athar Hameed Butt – Westminster International University in Tashkent
Dr. Athar has over 20 years of experience as an academic, trainer, and consultant. He was a pioneer at IQRA University Islamabad and served as the Head of the Management and HRM Department at the National University of Science and Technology, Islamabad. Dr. Athar specializes in Management, Organizational Psychology, Employee well-being, Organizational Culture and Values, and Change Management. Throughout his career, he has provided consulting services to a wide range of organizations, including multinational corporations, semi-government and government institutions, development sector organizations, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Dr. Athar holds a PhD from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, which is ranked among the top 200 universities in the world. He also earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from the University of Lincoln in the United Kingdom. In addition, he has been awarded a Doctor of Science in Economics (DSc) by the Supreme Attestation Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He is certified as a professional in ability and personality testing, recognized by the British Psychological Society.

Alisher Ismailov, Course Leader for Business Management and its Pathways – Westminster International University in Tashkent
Alisher Ismailov is a Course Leader for the Business Management area and its pathways, bringing with him over ten years of teaching experience. Mr. Ismailov holds the Certified University Teacher qualification, specializing in Leadership, Management, Entrepreneurship, Retailing Business, Change Management, and Work-life Balance. Currently, Alisher is pursuing his PhD at the University of Westminster in the UK. He has made noteworthy contributions to the academic field through the publication of research papers on sustainable leadership, with a particular focus on addressing pressing global issues relevant to Uzbekistan.
In addition to his work in academia, Alisher Ismailov also works as a business consultant. He has collaborated with prominent enterprises in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, demonstrating his entrepreneurial skills. Alisher has also been involved in successful startups, some of which have received significant funding, surpassing the milestone of 1 million dollars. His practical experience in the business world enables him to share real-life insights and the latest industry cases with his students, creating a comprehensive and dynamic educational experience.
